Lori’s debut novel, Daredevil, tells the story of Macy Reardon, a housewife who seems to have everything: a handsome husband who is a successful executive at a biotech firm, two beautiful children, and a picture-perfect home in a wealthy suburb of Los Angeles.

But despite the fact that Macy “has it all”, she finds herself becoming increasingly dissatisfied with her life, wondering how the disconnect she feels can be remedied. When she discovers her marriage isn’t what she thought it was, it leads her to further question the choices she has made.

To battle her discontent, Macy and her best friend, Juliette, join a women’s social club. led by the charismatic and mysterious Melia, in which the members award each other dares to inject fun and excitement back into their mundane lives. Macy’s journey as a “daredevil” begins with the simple and relatively harmless dare of getting a tattoo, but quickly progresses to more audacious dares that lead to her involvement with a struggling young musician, Jem. 

Macy’s identity as a housewife and mother, and her new role as a daredevil, begin to intersect and conflict until she is forced to make choices – choices that lead to the unraveling of her once stable and secure existence, and by the end of the novel, enable Macy to answer the questions she has had all along about her idyllic suburban lifestyle, her marriage, and her identity.

Daredevil has been called a “Fight Club for Soccer Moms” and the popular TV series “Desperate Housewives”. Like “The Diary of Bridget Jones” and “I Don’t Know How She Does It”, Daredevil tells the story of a woman wrestling with the issues of work, family, and home, and how they affect her identity and status in society. Unlike all of these books, however, Daredevil tells the unique story of a woman who is willing to risk those things she values most and dive off the edge, just to feel alive again.
